The effect of Cash For Work — Enhanced Rural Resilience Yemen projects.

“I felt that I was born again when the village beneficiaries informed me that I will become a member of the village workgroup in the ERRY-CFW project”, the beneficiary said.

“When they told me that this project will pay us a monthly salary for one year in this very difficult situation, I told myself, — they are dreaming. But there were not many choices, let us see. Then the dream started to come true and many things changed in my life.

Working in a team is a great feeling. I felt that I’m important person in this community even if I’m an old man.

Participating in drilling a well to create water source for villagers is another great sensation. The women and children from the village walk around one kilometer every day just to collect water. Is this possible that I participate in changing around 82 families life who walk kilometers to collect water? Can you image that I built one big room from the received salary from this project, in place of the hut I used to live in?

Now, my family and I are not afraid of the hot days nor the rainy weather as my small house is constructed with cement and stones.

The most important effect was the great feeling I got after joining the project that my life has become again meaningful by having a goal in my life. Working again, being committed and productive again at this age has made me feel young, independent and not helpless. I can find no words to describe my happiness as I see my family is independent and happy.”

The life of this man and his family has changed radically through feeling more valued in life and more independent and secured materialistically since October 2016 till now.
